A Description of the Programme
The West Midlands is one of the larger training schemes in the UK with 23 training posts.
During the 4 year training, 24-36 months are spent in Birmingham hospitals and the remaining time in other teaching hospitals in the region.
Training posts are located at University Hospital Birmingham (including Birmingham Children’s Hospital) (5), City Hospital Birmingham (4), Solihull Hospital (4), University Hospital Coventry (4), Warwick Hospital (2), Worcester hospitals (2), Walsall (2) and Dudley (1). Numbers of posts detailed are only indicative numbers and may be subject to change.
The training programme covers multiple hospitals within the West Midlands which cover a large geographical area. Trainees are required to travel regularly to different hospital sites for teaching and out of hours on-calls, which frequently cross cover other hospitals. It is expected that trainees will relocate to the West Midlands to ensure they are able to fulfil both the clinical and educational commitments of the program.
Rotations takes place every May. ST trainees appointed in August will commonly move the following May.
